A Qing Dynasty Chinese Blue & White ''Scholars'' Porcelain Bowl A Chinese blue and white porcelain bowl attributed to the Transitional Period (c. 1640--1660), spanning the late Ming (Chongzhen) to early Qing (Shunzhi) dynasties. This deep-form bowl is beautifully decorated in vibrant underglaze cobalt blue with a narrative ''Scholar in a Landscape'' scene. Artistry & Design: Motif: Features a masterfully painted scholar leaning against a gnarled pine tree, accompanied by attendants in a rocky landscape. Stylistic Markers: Includes the classic 17th-century ''V-shaped'' grass shorthand and swirling clouds, executed with the confident, painterly brushwork typical of the period. Form: A substantial, deep-sided profile (often associated with Kosometsuke wares produced for the Japanese tea ceremony market). Features a characteristic unglazed ''mushover'' foot rim with visible radial chatter marks from the potting wheel. Commensurate with age. The bowl retains a wonderful ...lustre; some minor ''fritting". No major cracks or restoration visible.
